Popular ecommerce business makes its first move into ‘Bricks and Mortar’

A well-established and popular flooring supplier that built its business online has made its first move into physical premises at Hillington Park.

Marcias’s expanding business has brought its two popular online flooring brands – McKay’s Flooring and Gym Flooring – and its latest venture, Super Strong Fitness to a recently refurbished 7,372 sq ft unit at 51 Watt Road, which will be home to its new ‘3 in 1’ showroom, office and warehouse & distribution centre.

McKay’s Flooring and Gym Flooring provides wood, parquet, vinyl and laminate flooring, as well as resurfacing services, outdoor composite decking, fencing and artificial grass ranges.  Super Strong Fitness supplies the latest fitness & gym equipment.

Marcias’ clients are based throughout the UK and include both residential and commercial customers in sectors including sports, fitness & recreation, community-based facilities, educational organisations, landscaping, hospitality, retail and the architect and construction industries.

The family business, which employs around 20 staff, anticipates further growth and recruitment following the opening of its new showroom and warehouse which allows it to hold wider product ranges and stock levels as well as welcoming customers to view and test products.

Richard McKay, director of Marcias said: “Until now our businesses have been ecommerce websites which have significantly grown and expanded.  We wanted to merge these retail channels and offer customers a showroom where they can view products and enjoy more of a buying experience when they decide to purchase from us.  Our new premises provides a centralised location with a new office, a large warehouse and distribution operation which supports our growing online retail channels.

“Hillington Park’s central location attracts the types of customer and businesses we want to engage with and being based here is also a way of building new connections with neighbouring companies.”

Derek Aitken, Senior Asset Manager at Hillington Park said: “McKay’s Flooring and Gym Flooring are already strong online brands and adding a physical showroom and a large warehouse to support the distribution side of the business demonstrates its ambitions to continue to build the business further.

“51 Watt Road was part of our recent £1m refurbishment programme which saw three key industrial properties benefitting from extensive external and internal works and was pre-let before the works had been completed.  The interiors were completely refurbished, new windows and doors installed, and roofs and facades recladded bringing a significant improvement to the Energy Performance Certification (EPC) and reduced energy costs for occupiers.”
