Russell Logistics continues to develop young workforce
Russell Logistics, one of Scotland’s leading transport and logistics companies, is working with local partners to support and develop young people in the area.

The company based on Deanside Road is working with the Logistics Academy run in partnership with Renfrewshire Council, West College Scotland and Developing the Young Workforce.

The programme aims to increase opportunities for local young people and encourage them to consider a career within logistics.

Young people on the programme have the chance to gain their counterbalance forklift licence, achieve automotive qualifications at West College Scotland and undertake work experience with a local logistics company.

Last year, Russell’s Warehousing Business Unit has provided work experience opportunities for five young people from the programme. The young people from Johnstone High school have had the chance to work in a warehousing environment, receiving hands on experience of the end-to-end supply chain process. Three young people from the programme have now secured full time roles within Russell Logistics.

Raymond Kane, Development Officer for Skills for Learning, Life and Work at Renfrewshire Council said, “The logistics programme and particularly the placement opportunity offered by Russell, has provided this group of Renfrewshire young people with an exceptional work-based learning experience. Many of the young people involved had never considered career pathways in this industry but the labour market information tells us that this sector is thriving.”

Russell Logistics is a leading transport and logistics provider committed to delivering high value solutions across the UK and Europe. Founded in 1969 by John Russell, the company offers a complete range of warehousing and distribution services by road, rail and sea, as well as contract packing and e-fulfilment solutions.
