From Hillington to Hollywood
The world leading facial capture company Dimensional Imaging Ltd (DI4D) was a key member of the recently crowned Oscar winning visual effects (VFX) team for Blade Runner 2049.

The Innovation Centre based company’s DI4D PRO System was used in a pivotal scene in the movie, capturing actresses Sean Young and Loren Peta on location in Budapest. Sean Young starred as replicant ‘Rachael’ in the original film with Peta taking over the character in the sequel.

Without the use of markers or makeup, DI4D captured and tracked Loren’s facial performance to deliver highly realistic animation for the scene.

Douglas Green, COO of DI4D said: “I’d like to congratulate all the VFX teams who worked on Blade Runner 2048 and we are honoured to have been a part of this amazing movie – its Academy Award is well deserved.

“When we were asked to capture the facial performances for this crucial scene in Blade Runner 2049, we knew our system would deliver the highest possible fidelity of data that the VFX production team required.”

Richard Clegg, VFX Supervisor at MPC added: “Quality data capture, especially for facial performances, is an integral part of producing digital humans. Dimensional Imaging came through for us with Rachael on Blade Runner 2049. Their team was highly professional and very accommodating.”

DI4D has become the VFX industry’s foremost provider of facial performance capture for visual effects in movies, video games and virtual reality as well as for advanced clinical and other scientific research applications.
