Business Q&A – Ducati
Martin Rees, Managing Director of Rogers, Rees and Robins Limited Trading as Ducati Glasgow, Triumph Glasgow and Dainese Pro Store Scotland

Q. What does your company do?

We have proudly retailed the most stunning Ducati motorcycles, accessories and clothing for over 15 years. In 2014, with a wealth of experience in the motorcycle industry in Scotland, we were made aware of an opportunity to add another brand to our organisation and so we took on the Triumph dealership for the West of Scotland.

Today we trade from our state-of-the-art Triumph Glasgow and Ducati Glasgow showrooms at Pit Lane, Mossland Drive, Hillington Park. Within our new £3.5 million showrooms, you will find an array of new, used and show-piece-only motorcycles on display, one of Europe’s largest motorcycle only dedicated workshops, Scotland’s only Dainese Pro Store and our Café.

The facilities we offer across all of our brands include: new and used vehicle sales, servicing, accessory fitting, diagnostics, customisation, restoration, repair work, tyre fitting and full workshop facilities.

At the heart of our new showroom we have the only Dainese Pro store in Scotland which is also one of the largest in the UK, stocking the latest in Italian quality such as one and two-piece leather suits, Gore-Tex and D/Air technical clothing, AGV helmets including the full Rossi range, boots, gloves, armour, casual clothing and merchandise. Our in-store Café, Café Racer, serves hand roasted coffee, delicious light bites and boasts a sun facing balcony with bespoke helmet, jacket and bike gear storage.

Q. What’s your role and what’s your average day like?

As Managing Director of the business, every day is very different and I am grateful for our professional and motivated employees who manage their departments so effectively. I work closely with each member of staff to ensure we are always improving, evolving and working together to constantly provide our customers with our award-winning service.

I am on hand and in-store every day to ensure I’m available to our customers, staff and suppliers. I’m at every event we operate to ensure our brands are presented in the high standard they deserve, and if I’m not supporting team meetings or instructing at track nights you might find me in our Cafe Racer enjoying a cuppa with our valued customers!

Q. How long have you been at Hillington Park and what do you like about being here?

We started planning our move to Hillington Park in 2012 with construction beginning in June 2016. We then opened our doors in March this year. Hillington Park is an ideal location for us, with Glasgow Airport just three short miles away and the famous sweeping roads of Loch Lomond within a mere 30 minute journey. With an abundance of free parking, superb motorway visibility, a location which can be so easily navigated to and with local businesses and suppliers within reach – what more could we ask for?

Q. What’s the best business advice you’ve received?

Sometimes you need to take a risk to reach your goals. It is important to decide what you want and what you are willing to exchange for it before establishing your priorities.

Q. What’s been your proudest moment?

After five years of extremely hard work; handling the difficulties of planning, construction and working out of a building site, I am now immensely proud of our incredible showrooms. I’m so grateful for all the efforts put in by all those involved in the process from start to finish. It fills me with enormous pride that we have built a successful business, can contribute to the local economy and can provide a healthy employment for a growing workforce of local people

Q. What do you do to relax?

With a genuine passion for my product I spend as much of my very limited free time as possible round the UK and Europe riding some of the world’s most notorious racing circuits. I absolutely love our Ducati Glasgow Track Nights at Knockhill Racing Circuit, mentoring newcomers and spending time with experienced track riders and customers.
