Hillington Park shortlisted for prestigious award
Hillington Park’s Simplified Planning Zone (SPZ) - an innovative scheme that streamlines the planning process for businesses already on the Park or looking to base themselves there – has been shortlisted for a prestigious industry award.

It is one of only five projects in Scotland to have reached this stage of the national Royal Town Planning Institute Awards (just 80 shortlisted in total for the whole of the UK) and has been has been listed against four other schemes in The Excellence in Decision Making in Planning category.

Hillington Park is one of Scotland’s largest mixed-use business parks (417 acres) and is home to over 500 companies employing around 6500 people. It is based to the west of Glasgow and is just two miles from Glasgow Airport.

The SPZ is the first of its kind in Scotland and was created in partnership with Hillington Park’s planning consultants Terence O’Rourke and Renfrewshire and Glasgow City Councils, with backing from The Scottish Government.

Jamie Cumming, commercial director for Hillington Park said, “We already know how innovative the SPZ is so to have it shortlisted for such a highly respected award by our industry peers is a tremendous endorsement of the hard work put in by everyone. We are now looking forward to hearing the judges’ final decision in July.”

The SPZ is a designated area that benefits from a simplified, streamlined and pre-approved planning application process. What that means in practice is that planning applications made within the Hillington Park SPZ guidelines, which covers both Renfrewshire Council and Glasgow City Council areas, have effectively already be approved.

Economic development forecasts have suggested that the new SPZ at Hillington Park has the potential to generate 2,800 full time jobs and generate additional economic wealth of £217m over the next ten years.
