Excitement building for RTPI Planning Awards
Excitement is building at Hillington Park as the annual RTPI Awards draw near.

The Park’s Simplified Planning Zone (SPZ) has been shortlisted in The ‘Excellence in Decision Making in Planning’ category and with the big event happening in London on the 6th of July it won’t be long before the judges’ big decision is announced.

Another four entries from across the UK have been shortlisted in this category including those from London Underground and the Thames Tideway Tunnel.

Jamie Cumming, commercial director for Hillington Park said, “This is one of the top industry awards and just being shortlisted is a tremendous accolade so winning it would be fantastic. A lot of commitment from every party involved, in particular both Glasgow and Renfrewshire Councils, went into securing SPZ status for Hillington Park and we think that was reflected in our entry.”

The SPZ is the first of its kind in Scotland and was created in partnership with Hillington Park’s planning consultants Terence O’Rourke and Renfrewshire and Glasgow City Councils, with backing from The Scottish Government.

James Iles, Associate Director at Terence O’Rourke said: “The SPZ is a great example of proactive planning to remove barriers to sustainable growth.”

The SPZ is a designated area that benefits from a simplified, streamlined and pre-approved planning application process. What that means in practice is that development proposals made within the Hillington Park SPZ guidelines, which straddles the Renfrewshire Council and Glasgow City Council boundary, already have approval.
